Santa or Jesus?

Santa Claus is acceptable to most people, but Jesus isn’t. Santa is not threatening to anyone, but Jesus is controversial because He demands a decision.

You don’t see people protesting the Santa at the mall, but let someone try to put a nativity in a town square and there is an uprising. Have you ever heard of anyone being offended when people don the furry red hats with white trim, but in some places teachers are prohibited from wearing a simple cross representing their faith in Jesus? Elementary classes every where can sing of Old St Nick, but Jesus cannot be mentioned in the lyrics sung at “holiday” programs.

Is it fair? No way!

Santa was created to represent the spirit of Christmas, but has become a distraction for the real meaning of Christmas. Children learn to revere Santa; but what are they being taught when Jesus, the real reason for Christmas cannot even be celebrated?  Adults go into debt to keep the myth of Santa alive so their children will “believe,” but neglect the more important thing for their children to believe--the reason why Jesus came to this earth.

Let’s compare the two a bit more:
Santa is a myth…Jesus is proven by history and in the Bible
Santa was born out of a story…Jesus is God born in the flesh
Santa is a jolly old man…Jesus gives us joy
Santa says, “Ho,Ho, Ho”…Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and the life”
Santa promises to bring gifts to good little boys and girls…Jesus will be the ultimate gift giver when believers stand before His throne
Santa pretends to know if kids are naughty or nice…Jesus knows everything about each of us
Santa wears a floppy cap with a ball on the end…Jesus wears a crown
Santa listens to what kids want…Jesus listens to what everyone wants
Santa “lives” at the North Pole with elves…Jesus lives in heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father
Santa wears a red suit trimmed with fur…Jesus will dazzle us wearing His glory when He returns
Santa rides in a sleigh with reindeer…Jesus first arrived in a stable but will one day return on a white horse in victory
Santa has evolved over the years…Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever
Santa brings candy and toys…Jesus brings eternal life
Santa comes to make people “happy”…Jesus comes to save people from their sin
Santa is written about in many books…Jesus is written about in The Book—the Bible
Santa comes once a year…Jesus never leaves us or forsakes us

Which will you choose to worship—the silly man in the red suit or the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

Revelation 17:14 They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.

Bavarian Cream Pie

2 eggs 1/8 t salt 3/4 c scalded milk 1 c whipping cream 1 T gelatin 1/4 c cold water 1/2 c sugar 1 t vanilla Chocolate crumb crust Beat sugar and egg yolks. Then add milk and scald until it sticks to the spoon, stirring constantly. Let gelatin and cold water soak until dissolved, then add to milk and let cool. Whip cream and egg whites separately and then mix together. Mix cream and egg mixture to the milk that has been cooled. Add vanilla to mixture. When this begins to congeal, pour into chocolate crumb crust. Put into refrigerator for at least 4 hours. Sprinkle crushed crumbs over the top before serving. www.hearthope.org

Leap of Faith

Why was I jumping out of a perfectly good airplane? My bucket List, of course. I had always wanted to sky dive and didn't want to be as old as Bush 41 when I did it. My life was in the hands of a complete stranger. Oh yes, I met him just minutes before being strapped together with him to jump out of an airplane. So how did I come to grips with it? Research had been done to ensure that I was going to the best facility with quality and qualified people who would be in charge. The reputation was there. Check. Another factor was having people with me for support and encouragement. Check. Upon meeting my instructor, Mike, there was a tinge of disappointment. The others were young and fit, mine was older and not as fit, but he quickly won me over by trying to scare me. I didn't budge in my dedication to take the leap, but came right back with rebuttals to his comments. That seemed to be the turning point and he decided to make it the event of a lifetime for me.

Mount of the Holy Cross

For years people have enjoyed the awe of Mount of the Holy Cross which is a 14,000 foot mountain in the Sawatch Range of Colorado. It is named for the distinctive snow-filled cross at the top of the mountain and was proclaimed a national monument by Herbert Hoover in 1929. Painters have painted it; photographers have photographed it and hikers have hiked it, because of its special beauty. When my children were young and visiting the area, we would take the gondola up the mountain to the observation deck at Eagle’s Nest for the perfect view of the majestic Mount of the Holy Cross.  So when my grandchildren were visiting this summer, it seemed natural to take them to the same spot for old times’ sake.  The mountain had not changed and the view was still inspiring, but something was terribly wrong. The name on the sign at Eagle’s Nest had been changed. It was no longer labeled Mount of the Holy Cross, but instead has been replaced with the designation Cross of Snow. Why would that be do
