Hospital Procedures--Helpful or Hindering?

Image
If a hospital is supposed to be a place of healing, health and restoration why do they disturb you day and night? It's hard to understand why it is so very important that they check your temperature, your blood oxygen level and blood pressure in the middle of the night.  After one of those nights filled with numerous interruptions, my husband had enough. When they arrived in his room at 4:30 AM to draw blood, he clearly told the nurse no. He demanded that she return at a decent hour. She reluctantly said she would return in an hour after completing the draws from the rest of the floor. (Personally I wanted to get it over with so that we didn't have to wake up again so soon.) Although I know the tests and checks are an important part of the healing process and are necessary to make sure there are no complications that arise undetected, at the time they seem to be nuisances. However if something had been wrong, we would have been thankful for the monitoring c...

Interrupt Me

Image
Who would ever pray “God interrupt me today?” It might seem to be ludicrous according to the world’s standards since we all have our agendas and the things we want to accomplish. Anything that is not on our “to do” list is usually met with resistance. However, when we begin to look at the interruptions as divine appointments we can enjoy the ministry opportunities that God puts in our path.  This morning when I prayed, “God interrupt me today” I wasn’t a lunatic, but instead was anxious to see what God has planned for our day. My Friday morning began like many of them do, starting off slow, but when people realized that it was the end of the week they began bombarding me with all of the things they had forgotten about earlier in the week.  Things got a bit overwhelming so when my phone rang and a friend asked if I wanted to take a quick walk around the lake, I jumped at the opportunity to get away from my desk for a few minutes and enjoy the beautiful day. Even though thi...

Bird Blunders

Image
At least four times in the last few months while sitting in my living room, I have heard a thud at the window. Each time, I discovered that a bird had crashed into the large picture window that looks into my backyard, and believe me it was not because the windows were so clean that they could not tell that they were flying into the glass pane. I’m not sure exactly why these crashes happen, but I do have a few guesses. The first one is that they just get distracted either by another bird or by the freedom that they feel gliding through the air. That sometimes happens to me in life; I lose my focus and while distracted I get myself into a situation that might be harmful or even dangerous. Another possibility for the flying mishaps could be that the reflection in the glass makes it look like there are blue skies and clouds out in front of them, but it is actually a mirage. This can happen in life too when we don’t check out things carefully we can be fooled into a false manner of thinking...
