Cancelled

Image
Never have I seen so many unhappy faces. Not a smile was spotted anywhere in the waiting area. Tension levels were high. Frustration abounded. Toes were tapping. Phone calls were being made. The flight to Dallas had been cancelled. Businessmen had to change their meetings, families had to rearrange their vacations and others were trying to manipulate their routes in order to get to their ultimate destination. It was the ripple effect. The weather in one city had caused the flight to a major hub to be unable to takeoff thus the dominoes began falling. The people on that flight had to be placed on other flights and other airlines, leaving many angry and upset. I'm so glad that God doesn't cancel on us. We can count on Him to always be there for us. We don't have to wait on Him or wonder if He is going to let us down. Even though His time frame is often not exactly the same as ours and it seems that He is late, we are in reality just early for His perfect plans.

Sure Cure for a Bad Day

My friend Paula was having a bad day. She had a phone call that was not good news. As her day continued, she started getting sick and throwing up. She laid down, worried about the phone call that had made her sick. Later another phone call was received and again the news was not so good. After she got off the phone she had tears in her eyes and felt as though she was about to break down. She prayed, “God what is going on? I can't take anymore; I just can't. My world is crashing all around. What have I done to You?”  Paula was feeling pretty hopeless and just wanted to give up. She got up wiped her eyes and went outside on the front porch and sat down. She was so depressed and figured that maybe cigarettes would help, so she went back inside to inform her mother that she was going to buy a pack of them. Her mother begged her not to leave, but Paula said, “I'm stressed and worried” then turned and walked out the door. She stopped in her tracks because a plant was

Strangers, Yet Sisters

It had been one of those days where you just want to run away, hop in the car and go anywhere except where you are destined. My day started with tears then came the prayer, followed by flight cancellations and over seven hours of just waiting to see if I might be able to get on a flight. Originally I had been bound for home, through DFW and then on to Eagle, so how come I ended up going to Houston and wouldn't be arriving home until the next night? Perhaps it was a divine appointment. As I entered the Southwest plane, the only seats available were in between the window and aisle seats, so I gazed quickly through the plane, sent up an arrow prayer before selecting my seat mates for the hour long flight. I recognized another lady from the waiting area who had also been there most of the day. On the same row was a small black woman eating a candy cane who donned a small gold cross. I asked if I might sit with them. They were polite in their response, but what else were th

"Terrible Neighbor"

Image
A friend made a confession...her phone rang and up popped the name “Terrible Neighbor.” Now of course that was not the person’s real name, but that is the descriptive label that my friend had given her because of the awful way that she had been treated by the person who lived in the unit next door. Since my friend was at dinner she ignored the phone call and figured that the neighbor was simply calling to complain about something else. She could listen to the ranting message later. Arriving home after dinner my friend thought perhaps she should have answered the phone when she saw all of the emergency vehicles in the driveway. There had been a flood and the neighbor had called to inform her of what was going on. Just a few months earlier, my friend would have made other choices, but because God has been at work in her life, she chose to go next door, express condolences and even offer assistance if needed. The neighbor seemed to soften at the offer and then thanked h

Food Stamps

My friend Janet shared the following story with me and I thought it might bring encouragement to you all to see her faith in action. Janet wrote: I’ve never told you before probably because of embarrassment, but my mom gets food stamps each month.   At first I was ashamed to use the card they gave her; I felt less than having to use them but I got over it knowing that I have to feed my mom according to her special diet. It is a way that God has provided for us during this difficult time. Last week I had to interview again for my mom so she could continue getting the money for food. In the past she has always had the money placed on the card on the first day of the month. I assumed it would stay the same after the interview, so on Saturday I called to make sure that the money was there before I went to the store. She used to get $89.00 a month so that is what we were anticipating however when I called the recording said she got $1.00 for the month. I couldn'
