Spring in the Rockies

Well it seems it is finally springtime in the Rockies. For some people that might seem a bit strange because they have already experienced summer temperatures and weather, but here in the mountains of Colorado it is just arriving. Spring is a glorious time of year where within a few hours we can experience a blinding snowstorm in the morning, blue skies and 70 degree temperatures by noon and a gray gloomy afternoon. If you don’t think that is possible, we experienced all of that in just one day this week. In my mind, spring is a time of hope, since the short, cold days of winter have ended.

The splendor of flowers popping out of the earth, fresh green grass, and aspen leaves bursting forth all shout out that there is new life. The sounds of spring from the children playing in the neighborhood to the roaring of the lawnmowers always cause me to remember the days of my youth. And then there are the smells that go along with this time of year, such as the delicate smell of the lilacs and the outdoor barbeques. It’s truly a wonderful time of year.

With the changing of the seasons, I can always see the hand of God and how He is in control of this earth we enjoy each day. He planned it so that we could have variety along with the pleasures of each season. But I think going from winter into spring He gives us the beautiful picture of going from the dormant time of winter into the new life of spring which reminds me of how He does that same thing with each of us. God can take the cold and dark times of our lives and transform them into something new… something good… something beautiful. So if this is a time of winter in your life, just wait, God is at work and remember spring is just around the corner.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
