Muses from the Museum

Today we took a “field trip” to Denver. The main function of the trip was to take my son-in-law, Billy, to the airport, but my daughter, Margaret along with the kids, Will and Molly decided that it would be fun to go along and stop at the Museum of Science and History to check out exhibits for the dinosaurs, the Indians and the animals native to Colorado. Of course, just as we were pulling into Denver, Molly fell asleep for her afternoon nap, which put a damper on the original plans, so plan B went into action. Billy and Will went in to see the displays while Margaret and I waited in the car for “Sleeping Beauty” to wake up.

At five years of age, Will is very inquisitive, so he and his dad had some fun daddy/son time with Will asking hundreds of questions and Billy doing his best to answer each of them. They scurried from exploring the enormous dinosaur skeletons to see the scary mounted bears, mountain lions and wolves while we waited in the car. When Molly finally got up from her nap, Margaret and I debated on whether or not we wanted to spend the money to go in for such a short time and decided that we would just wander around in the foyer area, the T-Rex Café and the museum gift shop. There were several dinosaurs in the foyer area, so we told Molly all about them and then proceeded to look at all of the unusual items in the gift shop before going to the food court area to finish waiting for the boys. Molly was quite content with her afternoon at the museum even though she never entered the actual display area.

I think that sometimes we as Christians are a lot like Molly; we are content to just have our salvation, but we don’t go beyond the entry point. Christ has paid the price for us to go in and enjoy every part of the life He has planned for us, but we stay on the periphery, just wandering around with no plan or purpose. God’s desire is for us to have a rich and satisfying life that is full of adventures that He has planned for us. Do you want to stay in the foyer or do you want to explore all that God has in store for you?

John 10:10b I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
