Trust on the Tarmac

Image
Walking across the Tarmac at our small airport and glancing up at the plane, I spotted the pilot in the tip of the cockpit. He looked awfully small to be able to maneuver the large plane across the country. I have never been able to understand the dynamics of how a plane can become airborne and stay in the sky going to a particular destination without complications or danger, yet I still choose to put my trust in someone I don't know and in an object that I don't understand to take me to my destination. Millions of people do the same thing each and every day. Many of these same trusting people refuse another important area of trust. They refuse to trust the Creator of this wonderfully amazing universe where we live. They refuse to believe that there is a God who cares about our lives. And they refuse to trust that God has a perfect plan for their lives. How can we trust a stranger and yet not trust the Master of the universe? Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the ...

Airplane Faith

Image
I have no clue as to how an airplane gets into the air and stays there for hundreds of miles, but I do trust the fact that it will happen. Each time I board a jet-liner, I put my faith and trust in something that I do not understand and cannot explain. I know there are laws of aerodynamics that determine speed, size, shape, engine thrust, etc., but since I can hardly fold a paper airplane to keep it airborne for any length of time I would never attempt to describe the way an aircraft flies.  My lack of understanding does not prevent me from getting on the plane, buckling my seat belt and relaxing while the plane and pilot work in tandem to get me to my destination. If I can have faith in an inanimate object and a frail human pilot, why should I have trouble putting my faith in the Creator of the Universe? He has given us evidence of Himself in the world that He designed. It all points to Him, so why do we choose to ignore those signs and try to do things our own way? Faith is...

Submission or Stubbornness

Image
When on an airplane, I love to look out the window, so I always choose to sit in that position. On one particular day, I was fortunate enough to have two windows on my row. Upon sitting down I opened the window closest to me so I could watch the flurry of activity on the tarmac, but as we took off, my husband asked me to open the second window on our row so he too could look out. I slid the shade up for him, but a few minutes later the man on the row in front of us reached behind his seat and shut it. To be honest, my first thought was retaliation--to open the window back up, but how could I do that after I had just studied a scripture on submission which means being able to give up my rights to honor someone else. I could have been stubborn and pushed the shade back up, but that would have been disobedience in God's eyes. So as I sat there, I began thinking about he man in the seat in front of me. It was an early flight and maybe he needed to get more sleep. Or maybe he had some...
