Brand Standards

After three days of discussing policies and procedures, quality guest service and a myriad of other Legendary Hospitality topics at a recent training it got me thinking.

We talked about the difference between standards and brand standards. Every lodging property has a standard whether it's a Holiday Inn, a Marriott or a Ritz Carlton. Some are moderate while others are the height of luxury. It may involve everything from the type of toilet paper to the way a guest is greeted. Of course the finest properties have the most stringent guidelines.

The world too has standards.
  • We are not to kill another person.
  • Everyone in our country has the right to pursue happiness.
  • World peace is desired by all.
However God's “brand standards” for His children can be quite different:
  • In addition to simply not killing someone, we are called to love our neighbor as our self and not only that we are to love and pray for our enemies. Matthew 5:44
  • The temporary happiness that the world desires is just a shadow of God's standard of joy which is deeper and more fulfilling. John 15:11
  • And although world peace is a high standard it is not possible without God's standard of peace, which is peace deep within the hearts of individuals. Philippians 4:7

With just these few examples it is easy to see that the world's standards just don't measure up when compared to God's. Which will you strive for--the way of the world or God's way?

1 Corinthians 3:8 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.
