Musings from the Bike Path
A favorite past time is to watch the people who utilize the
path just over the ridge from my upstairs bedroom. You can see bikers, walkers,
runners, skaters along with miscellaneous others.
Last weekend gazing out the window I saw a child racing down the path on his bike, looking like there wasn't a care in the world. I knew there had to be adults coming along somewhere. But next was another little tyke, but his journey was different because he kept looking back to be sure that the parents were not far behind and he was right. They were next in line. However the show was not over...two more were yet to come. The third child was standing, pumping the pedals fiercely trying to catch up to the others. The last in line didn't appear to be trying too hard to gain access to the group, instead his tactic was to whine and cry in order to get the attention of the others in hopes that they would wait for him.
Our journey in Christ can mirror that family out for a leisurely ride. Sometimes we cruise along at a fast pace effortlessly enjoying the ride like the first rider. It seems like everything is going our way and God is showing favor on our lives.
At other times, we look around fearing that God might not be with us or glancing back over our shoulders at what is in our past when we should know that God will never leave us and that the best is yet to come.
In our mature state such as the parents, we can be comfortable cruising along in the middle of the pack keeping a watch over those who are in front and encouraging those who are struggling along the way.
And then there is the one pumping hard and fast trying to do things on his own power, perhaps trying to keep up with the others, afraid that he will be left behind instead of trusting God for the moment and looking ahead to the downward slope in his future that will catapult him to the front.
And then is the child who is whining and complaining and wants someone to step in and make his life easy. He doesn't realize that a life without struggles and hardship makes you stronger and better of you allow God to mold and shape you through it.
Can you relate to any of those people? Which stage are you in right now? Which one do you want to be? God is right there wanting, willing and waiting to assist in your journey as the Ultimate Guide.
Psalm 1:6 for The Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
