Saint Nicholas Day
I have a new friend, Max-Peter Breuning. He is the marketing intern from the Netherlands for our RockResorts Mountain Collection Sales and Marketing Department. We share a wall between our offices and I’ve had a great time getting to know him and feel like I am his mom away from home.
In sharing about the upcoming holiday season he told me that today, December 5th is called Saint Nicholas Day in his home country. This is the day that gifts are exchanged, so he showered us all with gifts from Europe this morning—delicious chocolate initials. He also has informed me that since gifts have already been opened they are able to really enjoy reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus.
What a novel idea; you get the distractions out of the way weeks in advance of the holiday, so that you have almost 3 weeks to spend on the important part of the holiday. Although I am not quite finished with my purchases for this Christmas, I do plan on wrapping it up earlier this year, so that Jesus can get the attention that He deserves.
Will you join me in making your focus on what’s really important?
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11
