Laughter Is the Best Medicine
Laughter the Best Medicine |
Some friends from Boulder were up in the mountains visiting us for the weekend, so we hopped on the bikes and rode to City Market to get a salad for lunch. Sue, Cathy and I decided just to sit on the concrete ledge outside of the store in the bright sunshine to enjoy the fall day. Since we don’t get to see each other often there was a lot to catch up on, so we stayed for quite a while enjoying the fellowship and the warmth of the sun.
The three of us are an unusual mix. We met in Boulder at the Newcomers Club and although we had drastically different backgrounds, we just hit it off and became fast friends. Simply said, we just like each other and can always pick right up where we left off. Cathy is the youngster in the group and has no kids, unless you call Frankie, the adopted cat, her baby; Sue has 3 kids about the same ages as mine and I’m not quite sure how many critters she has at the moment. Cathy is from the Northeast, Sue from the Midwest and I am from the South. Cathy enjoys nature, Sue loves dogs and I am the church lady in the group. We are diverse yet bonded through friendship.
As we sat on the ledge in front of the store, we were chattering non-stop with much laughter and carrying on. We must have been causing quite a commotion because a male passerby stopped and commented on our laughter. He stated that we would probably live forever if we kept on laughing like that. Now the thought of living on this earth forever is not particularly exciting to me, but I do think a good dose of laughter is good for your body, mind and soul. It is great to have friends that you can laugh with, be yourself with and be accepted for your differences.
Thank you Lord for friends, for laughter and for the diverse ways that you have created us.
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
